Arafat Ibne Ikram is an Electrical Engineer, researcher, and industry professional with strong expertise in renewable energy systems, smart grids, and data-driven energy optimization. He completed his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the International Islamic University Chittagong, where his undergraduate research focused on the techno-economic assessment of optimized hybrid microgrids.

He has worked as a Research Assistant under the supervision of Dr. M Shafiullah (KFUPM, Saudi Arabia), contributing to studies on renewable energy–integrated waste-to-energy systems, lifecycle cost analysis, and environmental impact assessment. His research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference publications, including works in popular journals such as the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, IET Power Electronics, and The Journal of Engineering. He also serves as a peer reviewer for Energy Storage (Wiley), contributing to the evaluation of manuscripts in energy storage systems, optimization, and sustainable power technologies.

Arafat has also served as a Teaching Assistant, mentoring undergraduate students in renewable energy modeling, MPPT-based solar PV systems, inverter control, and techno-economic evaluation using MATLAB and simulation tools. In parallel, he gained industry experience as a Data Analyst Associate at Catalyst Solutions, leading statistical analysis projects and developing data visualization dashboards for global clients. Currently, he works as a Maintenance Engineer (Electrical) at Park (Bangladesh) Company Ltd., where he is responsible for electrical system installation, maintenance, ensuring safety compliance, and providing operational support. His research interests lie at the intersection of sustainable energy systems, optimization algorithms, machine learning applications in power systems, and cost-effective low-carbon energy solutions.

Dec 02, 2025 I am thrilled to share that one of our research papers, entitled “Cost-Effective Optimal Integration of Renewable Energy and Waste-to-Energy Technologies”, is now available online as an open-access publication.
While working as a Research assistant under the supervision of Dr. Md Shafiullah, We conducted a case study on waste-to-energy generation systems integrated with renewable energy sources, focusing on annual cost, risk factors, economic life cycle assessment, and environmental impact analysis, resulting in 8% cost reduction. Feb 15, 2024 Thrilled to announce our new publication in the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering (AJSE) — a Reputable Journal! 📰✨ Our article, “Techno-Economic Assessment and Environmental Impact Analysis of Hybrid Storage System Integrated Microgrid,” stems from my bachelor thesis. Jan 30, 2024 During my time as a graduate teaching assistant, I had the chance to collaborate with a professor on optimizing energy consumption in smart homes. We focused on load scheduling approaches to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Our work, guided by Dr. Asim Ullah (Fundded by FSE, Dept. of EEE, IIUC), was published in IET Power Electronics, 2024.
